How is Breast Augmentation Surgery Performed?

Breast implant surgery is usually performed under general anesthesia. The procedure takes approximately one hour to perform and the length of time you’ll need to recover at the facility after will depend on your individual case. You may be able to go home the same day, but you also may need to stay in the hospital overnight to feel more comfortable in your recovery.

During the surgery, an incision is made either on the perimeter of the areola or below the breast to insert the implants. Then implants are inserted either behind the breast or behind your chest muscle tissue, depending on which is best for you. Once symmetrical, the incision is closed with stitches.

In case you have a breast enlargement by fat transfer, the surgeon will harvest fat from your own body to create a fuller breast. The benefit of this type of breast augmentation is that there is no foreign object placed inside the body and no cutting of the skin, therefore, there will be no scarring. Fat is extracted from the body by liposuction from the hips, thighs, or abdomen. After the fat has been processed and purified, it is meticulously injected back into the breasts.
